WHAT IS A BETTER CHOICE FOR NEW YORK?

A Better Choice for New York is a commitment to invest in the future of New York by making smart revenue and budget balancing choice. Ensuring that New York is dedicated to protecting all of its citizens, not only big business, requires passing a budget that preserves the promise of New York and shares the burden between all of its participants. We must protect the most vulnerable-the children, elderly and poor-by avoiding detrimental spending cuts; under-funding education, health and human services discriminates against specific groups in our state.

We cannot continue to permit the middle class to shoulder the burden through increased regressive property taxes; make corporations pay their fair share and tell the Governor to stop the sweetheart deals with private contractors that take away jobs from our own state’s workers! The campaign has been previously successful in making the legislature aware of additional revenue options other than massive spending cuts; our elected officials responded with a reasonable tax increase on those with the highest incomes. This year our campaign must work even harder to tell the Governor and Legislature that big business must pay their fair share and that special interests must come second to the interests of New York State citizens. We must also let them know that tax equity must be achieved through a restructuring of the personal income tax.
